The method

How to layer perfume

To layer perfume: choose one fragrance as your core, spray it first on its usual spots, then spray a second, lighter fragrance over or beside it to add the note your core is missing. The order matters (heavy first, bright second), the ratio matters (more core than booster), and placement matters (different skin points, or low-to-high so the lighter notes sit on top).

Order of sprays

Layering works with the way scent rises. Heavy, deep notes sit low and last longest; bright citrus and aromatics lift and fade. Spray the heavier fragrance first, low on the body, and let it settle for a minute. Then spray the lighter one higher, or directly over the same point. The result: a base that holds and a top that glows.

Ratio and placement

Start with two sprays of core to one of booster. The mistake most people make is treating both bottles equally; then the louder one wins and the quieter one is wasted money. If you want the blend more even, put them on separate skin points (wrist and neck, for example) rather than doubling the sprays.

How SprayStacker uses this

Hand-layering is trial and error with an expensive perfume budget. SprayStacker takes your collection, asks what you are dressing for, and scores the combinations: the core stays dominant, boosters must cover the notes you asked for, and clashes get rejected before they reach your skin. Each stack arrives with a ratio, a reason, and an occasion, so you learn the logic while you wear it.

Common questions

How do you layer perfume?

Pick one core fragrance and spray it first. Then spray a lighter second fragrance over or beside it to add a missing note. Roughly 2:1 core to booster, heavier scent first, brighter second.

Which perfume goes on first when layering?

The heavier one. Deep, resinous, or sweet fragrances go on first and low; bright citrus and aromatic fragrances go on second so they sit on top of the blend instead of vanishing under it.

Can you layer two perfumes on the same spot?

Yes, but spray the heavier one first and wait a few seconds. Layering them in the right order on one point blends them; spraying both at the same moment on dry skin tends to blur into noise.

How many sprays should I use when layering?

Fewer than you think: around two sprays of the core and one of the booster. Layered fragrances amplify each other, so start light and add rather than starting loud and regretting.

What fragrances should not be layered?

Two dominant, heavy scents over the same skin point: they compete and turn muddy. Also skip anything you would not wear alone; layering fixes direction, not a fragrance you dislike.

Where do I start if I own more than a few bottles?

Ask for a stack for tonight, for a specific occasion. A concrete question (date night, office, summer day) narrows your whole shelf to two or three candidates fast.

Tell SprayStacker the occasion and it returns the pair, the ratio, and the reason, from your shelf.
